What is Ultrasound?
Ultrasound which is also known as sonography, is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of the inside of the body. Unlike other imaging methods, such as X-rays or CT scans, ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation, making it a safe option for a variety of diagnostic purposes.
Types of Ultrasound Services
Abdominal Ultrasound
Abdominal ultrasound examines the organs in the abdomen, including the liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, and kidneys. Conditions like gallstones, liver disease, and kidney stones are diagnose with the help of abdominal ultrasound.
Pelvic Ultrasound:
To evaluate the reproductive organs in both men and women pelvic ultrasounds are used. In women, it can help diagnose conditions such as ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, and ectopic pregnancies. In men, it is often used to examine the bladder and prostate.
Obstetric Ultrasound:
To monitor the development of the fetus During pregnancy obstetric ultrasound is used. It can provide important information about fetal growth, the position of the placenta, and the overall health of the pregnancy.
Breast Ultrasound:
Breast ultrasounds are used to investigate abnormalities found during a mammogram or physical exam. They can help differentiate between solid tumors and fluid-filled cysts and guide biopsies if needed.
Thyroid Ultrasound:
Thyroid ultrasound evaluates the thyroid gland for abnormalities such as nodules or enlargement. It is an essential tool for diagnosing and monitoring thyroid conditions.
Vascular Ultrasound:
Vascular ultrasounds assess the blood flow in the arteries and veins. They are commonly used to detect blood clots, blockages, and other vascular conditions.
Musculoskeletal Ultrasound:
This type of ultrasound is used to diagnose conditions affecting the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. It is particularly useful for evaluating injuries and guiding injections.
